Continuing in our inspiration series – we got to thinking about how would bathroom lighting be for a Sultan? So we took a digital hop over to the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul, Turkey to check it out.

Under the Ottoman Empire, the Topkapi Palace was richly decorated and designed with inlaid pearls and various precious artifacts. It is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world with hundreds of rooms and is a visited tourist site today.

While you might not have the same budget – you can mimic the designs for an arabesque look that is exotic, fresh and vibrant. I believe the lighting below is ideal for a moonlight. It would let in natural light over the faucet or shower area.

You can also put in recessed lighting into a design like this – and both options are equally pleasing to the eye.

Looking at the picture again – its not so exotic that it would be out of place in a modern bathroom. As it is, it could be a ceiling out of a loft or a penthouse.

Inspiration can come from the wildest places – so if you’re a believer in “idea spotting” you’re aware of how that works.

So we’ve started putting in pictures and ideas of beautiful lighting to provide you tips on going idea hunting on your own – or you can just view the pics on our blog and take inspiration from there.

You’re walking into a taco store, and you have to go to the bathroom – and you look up and what an epiphany – there’s the bathroom ceiling light you’ve always wanted, spot in the middle.

Check out the picture below – and you might (should) be surprised…

At first glance, you can’t believe how beautiful it is. It has the ambiance of a hotel lobby. The star shaped light is almost like a compass, nautical yet great for homes as well.

The paint on the ceiling with its raindrop design, adds to the natural touch. That’s what you call getting your money’s worth. A few dollars for a burrito and a really cool idea for your bathroom.
